About the Young Philanthropist Fund:

Established in 2006 by the MVP 20/30 Club and the Community Foundation
of the Mahoning Valley, YPF seeks to introduce young persons to the
role that philanthropy plays in the support of non-profit agencies
throughout the Mahoning Valley.  Each year, YPF awards grants based
upon the recommendation of a Board of Directors composed of
individuals associated with the MVP 20/30 Club, Youth Leadership
Mahoning Valley, and Youngstown State University's Student Government
Association.  In the three years since YPF's foundation, four grants
have been provided for a total of $6,000 in funding to area non-profit
agencies.

In 2008, the Fund received 11 applications for funding.  Evaluation
criteria included proven success, a youth-oriented focus, impact, and
written evaluation after site visits.  A grant for $2,500 was awarded
to the Ursuline Center HIV/AIDS Ministry in tandem with $9,000 from
another CFMV fund, for a total gift of $11,500.  These funds were used
to purchase a van for the program's use and to supervise summer
intervention activities for low-income children affected by HIV/AIDS.
