  • — Man Injured in Face, Police Still Investigating

    While many details aren't available, a man was injured near the Logan Gas Mart on Logan Avenue around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

    Initial reports said the man was either stabbed or shot in the face.

    He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police are trying to figure out what happened.

  • — New YSU President Donates $100,000 to School

    The salary and benefits package for Youngstown State University's new president was released Tuesday, the same day it was announced Cynthia Anderson will give $100,000 toward new scholarships.

    Anderson's three-year contract includes a starting salary of $350,000 with annual raises of $25,000 for the next two years. Anderson will also receive housing through the university. Renovations are being made at the Pollock house on Wick Avenue, which will be her new home.

    Also Tuesday, Anderson announced she is donating $100,000 to fund scholarships at YSU. Anderson made the donation in memory of her parents.

  • — Warren Bank Teller Indicted for Stealing from Customers

    A federal grand jury in Cleveland has indicted a Warren woman for taking thousands of dollars from a local bank.

    Tammy Morgan, 42, is charged with defrauding Home Savings Bank of nearly $30,000.

    The money came up missing while Morgan was a teller there from September of 2008 though January of last year.

    The indictment accuses Morgan of withdrawing money from customers' bank accounts and CDs.

  • — Trumbull Officers Plan St. Patty's Day Patrols

    Several law enforcement agencies in Trumbull County will be out on St. Patrick's Day Wednesday -- looking for drunk drivers.

    According to the Trumbull County OVI Task Force, officials will operate an OVI check point and conduct additional patrols throughout the county Wednesday. The patrols are assigned to specific areas based on the number of traffic accidents that occur there, said officials.

    The activity will be funded by a grant.

  • — McFall Family Continues Spelling Bee Legacy

    For the fifth time in five years, the Tribune Chronicle's annual spelling bee champion is a member of the McFall family.

    Rachel, 12, correctly spelled the word "flamboyant" Monday night, beating out nearly 40 other spellers to take home the crown. But the feat was no easy accomplishment.

    "It's really hard," said Rachel. "But, my family helps me out a lot. So, it gets easier then."
